Working on the text for 2,3 back in October, I spent some time trying to find the right words for a particular kind of gesture and mark I had in mind. I drew the marks opposite in an attempt to elicit their description.
In the end they were like birds, pecking:
"These nearby branches are each hung with a dozen or so cylindrical pendants of similar thickness and varying length. Perched atop the pendants or clinging to their sides are clutches of tightly controlled pencil marks that peck at them repeatedly, their movements echoing a set of jerky pencil lines we notice further down the page, beginning at each of the four feet and retreating toward the distant left hand edge of the frame."
