Back in June I sketched a diagram of the experiments, ideas and references accumulating over my first six months at Spike Island. Since then, with various amendments, omissions and delays, the diagram has begun to show itself (off) on the wall. Showing is the thing.
Through the autumn, as the residency draws to a close I'm planning some informal, private conversations with a few drawing researchers and practitioners I've met along the way. These conversations will focus specifically on the question of showing—how the gestures and movements involved in putting a drawing on the page show in the finished drawing, and how the marks show themselves on the page. A large part of my interest in these conversations will be how the conversations themselves are kept, and how what is kept might be shown, and on what. I have in mind Ruth Stone, who would run like hell.
